Colour and pattern

Using the York St John University colours and patterns.

Our primary colours are black or white. This clean and simple palette keeps our brand understated and allows us to apply colour from the subject matter.

Our Signature colours come from the York St John University crest. They connect to our history and help support the Core palette in a distinctive and recognisable way.

Our Brights palette introduces energy and vibrancy into the brand. These colours are especially effective

Heritage colours

These heritage colours are to be used on more formal design pieces, such as Vice Chancellor’s publications, letters and official documents, and Graduation yearly events.

Patterns

We use patterns as an essential element of our visual brand. These 8 vector based components can be used in any brand colour and within any style.

3 overlapping circles made up of diagonal lines

Pattern 1

Spokes in a circle, of varying thicknesses and distances apart

Pattern 2

Concentric circles made up of dotted lines of different thicknesses and lengths

Pattern 3

4 quarter circles of different sizes meeting in middle. Each quarter is filled with a different pattern.

Pattern 4

Radiating lines arranged in a circle, leaving a space in the middle.

Pattern 5

Circles of different sizes connect by straight, overlapping lines

Pattern 6

One large circle made up of curved lines with 2 smaller circles overlapping.

Pattern 7

Radiating lines made up of a mixture of solid colour or diagonal lines

Pattern 8

Radial lines, divided into shorter lines with small circles around the outside of the circle.

Pattern 9

Overlapping rings made up of radial lines

Pattern 10

Circle made up of lines which bend in middle and have a circle at one end.

Pattern 11

Circle split into sections like a pie chart. Each section has a different pattern, and 2 segments are separated from circle.

Pattern 12

Campaign colours and patterns

For specific recruitment cycles, we will work with a set colour scheme and unique design style. These can sometimes look very different to the main University branding, and they are used exclusively for materials relating to a recruitment cycle, such as the prospectus, UCAS stands, and website landing pages aimed at incoming students. We do not use these specific materials for more general University materials aimed at current students, staff, or the general public.
