Dr Becky Leung

Lecturer, Policing

I am a lecturer with a multidisciplinary background in law, psychology and criminology. I was awarded a PhD in Laws by The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2020 and was previously a Fulbright Scholar. Following my doctoral study, I have been developing my teaching practice at various higher education institutions in Hong Kong. My teaching interests are nested within the area of policing, criminal justice and criminology, I also give training to different practitioners, including law enforcers, lawyers and social workers. Moving forward, I aspire to develop and implement transformative and experiential learning programmes in the area of criminal justice and criminology.

My research interests focus on experiences and disadvantages of defendants with psychosocial disabilities. I have presented some of my work at national and international conferences and published in journals such as, International Journal of Comparative Criminology and Offender Therapy and The Howard Journal of Crime and Justice. I also have an interest in research topics including:

- Protest policing
- Compassion fatigue among first responders
- Mindfulness among first responders

I joined York St. John University in September 2022, where I am currently a Lecturer in Policing.
