Dr Hana Jee
Lecturer
I graduated from Seoul National University, South Korea in 2008 with BA in English Education. After many years of teaching English as a second language in South Korea, I resumed my postgraduate study in 2015 in Edinburgh. I obtained MSc with Merit in Psychology of Language at the University of Edinburgh, along with the Highly Commended Dissertation Award. I received PhD in Psychology at the University of Edinburgh in 2021.

Teaching
I taught English to chosen Korean students for over 10 years for Korean SAT. I also taught English to adults for business and other purposes. I published one English grammar book in 2007 (Publisher: Eomunhaksa) and four textbooks in 2010 (Publisher: Joan English).
I began to teach Korean to young learners at Edinburgh Hangeul School in 2019 and successfully launched adult classes in 2021. I also taught Korean to undergraduates at the University of Edinburgh in 2019. In 2022, I self-published two Korean grammar books and one reading textbook.
At York St John University, I teach Korean language modules across years and some other general linguistic modules like Descriptive Grammar of English and Language and Society.
Research
My research interest lies in the universal systematicity between linguistic forms and their meanings in many languages. I am also interested in designing creative methods to quantify any linguistic qualities, for example, the distance between word meanings, or the distance between letter shapes.

Professional activities
I worked for Koryo International Patent Law Office, Seoul, South Korea, between 2010 and 2013 at International Administration Department. I managed legal procedures, organized large amounts of data that are constantly updated, and communicated with formal and informal entities for various projects.
