Ollie Johnson, Education Outreach Coordinator

I have been involved with York St John University for many years. I studied my undergraduate History course between 2015-2018 and loved every minute of it. I later completed my PGCE in Secondary History teaching a few years later.

I still have a strong passion for History and love listening to music and playing guitar. I am from York originally and have no intentions of leaving a city that I consider myself very lucky to call my home.

I now work as part of the Student Recruitment team at York St John. As an Education Outreach Coordinator, it is my role to attract prospective students to consider York St John as a destination for their higher education studies. This means that I travel regionally and nationally to events and schools to deliver talks, activities, and be a part of higher education/job fairs.

My role also consists of being the project lead for Post Graduate recruitment. As the lead I am responsible for organising the open evenings for these events and coordinating the academics/courses that take part. I also do this with online Postgraduate events, that have students attend from across the globe.

Furthermore, I am also the project lead for 24hrs at York St John recruitment residential, which invites prospective year 12 students onto campus to experience studying and living as York St John Students for 1 night and 2 days. The students experience the city centre and have time to relax and bond in our Student’s Union, in between their academic sessions.

I take great pleasure in my role, as I strongly believe the University and the wider City of York to be a special place that is perfect for students of all ages and backgrounds.
