Dr Sarah Trussler
Senior Lecturer: Education
I have been working in education for over 30 years as a teacher in primary schools and university lecturer. I have taught in 3 universities and in primary schools in the UK and Thailand. I am passionate about social justice and inclusion and enjoy teaching students from range of backgrounds - especially as I was a 'first in family' myself.

Teaching
I teach in ITE (Initial Teacher Education) and CYE (Children, Young People and Education).
In ITE I am lead for the 1st year professional studies module and EAL lead. I enjoy teaching student teachers and my input is primarily on inclusion; mental health; Early Years; disability; safeguarding and how children learn. As well as teaching, I mentor student teachers in school.
In CYE I am lead for the 3rd year module on critical debates in SEND.
In addition, I supervise PhD and EdD students.

I am currently undertaking research in:
- A longitudinal study of emerging teacher identity in undergraduate primary ITE students
- Mental health literacy and academic tutoring
- A sociolinguistic study of language use among charity leaders in relation to safeguarding
- A duoethnological study of a transwoman's journey through transition and the shared experience with their mother
