Qualifications: BA, MA, PhD, SFHEA
I’m passionate about transforming classrooms into vibrant communities of opportunity. As Course Leader of the BA (Hons) Events and Experience Management at York Business School, I focus on shaping a learning environment that is academically rigorous, culturally diverse, and genuinely inclusive. My approach is centred on preparing students to thrive as confident, capable professionals with a global perspective.
Originally from South Asia and now based in the heart of York, I bring a global perspective to my work—grounded in rich lived experience and driven by a mission to empower every student. As a proud member of the Black, Minority Ethnic and Asian (BMEA) communities, my background deeply informs my teaching and leadership. I strive to cultivate socially just and inclusive learning environments where all students feel seen, supported, and inspired.
Beyond academia, I play an active role in bridging the gap between university and industry. I work closely with professional business networks across the UK, fostering a wide range of employer partnerships that directly support student placements, guest lectures, and collaborative initiatives. This ongoing engagement ensures the curriculum remains industry-relevant, embedding real-world assessments that equip students with meaningful, career-oriented experiences.
My leadership style harmonises warmth with innovation. I’ve spearheaded landmark events—including Diversity Festival, the annual Winter Ball, and the Black Rainbow Cabaret—that celebrate student creativity while serving as powerful platforms for experiential learning and inclusion. Each initiative reflects my commitment to showcasing diverse voices, fostering equity, and creating meaningful spaces for expression.

Research
I am a Lecturer in Marketing at York Business School, where my academic journey has been shaped by a passion for cultural insight, sustainability, and global collaboration. My early research focused on the creative cultural industries, with my PhD exploring how artistes contribute to ethno-religious cohesion and challenge socio-cultural norms.
With teaching experience spanning distinguished institutions in the UK, India, and Sri Lanka, I bring a truly international perspective to pedagogy. My approach centres on inclusive, interdisciplinary engagement, informed by diverse educational landscapes.
Marketing and social media remain among my strongest passions, with a specialist focus on qualitative research and ethnographic methods. My academic partnerships across South East Asia have enabled me to lead and contribute to over 30 conferences, workshops, and publications—empowering both students and colleagues through global collaboration and knowledge exchange.
These networks have also shaped project management opportunities, allowing me to translate academic research into practical, actionable outcomes.
As both a scholar and practitioner, I actively engage in ongoing professional development. My research is deeply rooted in intersectional enquiry, examining the interwoven influences of race, ethnicity, gender identity and sexuality across educational and societal spheres.
I lead several pioneering initiatives that explore identity, inclusion and heritage:
- Sustaining Cultural Heritage and Strengthening the BMEA Diaspora (QR Funding 2023–24): Examines migration, identity preservation and collaborative integration.
- Place Attachment in Sport Societies (Students as Researchers 2023–24): Investigates belonging and participation among BMEA students.
- Navigating Pride (QR Funding 2025–26): Explores LGBTQ+ event spaces and their role in fostering inclusive dialogue.
- ‘Black Rainbow’: BAME and LGBTQ+ Student Experiences at YSJU (2024–25): Analyses the layered impact of intersecting identities on well-being and inclusion.
These initiatives not only enrich academic discourse but actively shape institutional practice. In 2025, my work was showcased at Posters in Parliament, where I represented York St John University in presenting student-led research to UK policymakers.
I also serve as Co-Director of the Responsible Marketing Research Group, collaborating with global partners to turn research into tangible social, educational and industrial change.
