Mature learner induction

If you are aged 21 or over and you are starting your undergraduate studies at York St John University in September 2025, you are part of our mature learner community.

At York St John, our mature learners make up around a fifth of our student population. We have an outstanding record of supporting these students to achieve academic success.

To support you with your transition into higher education, we've put together a programme of activities especially for mature learners, which runs alongside your Welcome Week programme. With a range of workshops and drop-ins, there are plenty of ways for you to get to know each other, your University and your campus.

We are offering:

• Digital Training workshops: an introduction to the technology, software and systems you'll be using throughout your studies.
• Study Skills workshops: an introduction to study skills and strategies, with a focus on returning to education as a mature learner.
• On campus Specialist Support drop-ins and cafes: open to all mature students, parents and commuters, these sessions are a great opportunity to get to know other students, ask questions of our Specialist Support Advisers, and enjoy a cup of tea and a biscuit.
