Transport for London (TfL) strike action (Tuesday 2 and Thursday 4 June)

TfL strike action is still planned for Thursday 4 June and may affect travel across London. Earlier this week, students were emailed with confirmation of remote teaching arrangements during this period. All other sessions taking place today and Friday 5 June will take place on campus as usual. Please continue to check your YSJ email, Moodle and the MyYSJ app during periods of disruption, as we will contact you with any important updates. You can also stay up to date with travel information on the TfL website

London term dates reminder

Semester 3 for Postgraduate and London Undergraduate students runs from 15 June 2026 to 25 September 2026. Students are expected to take part in any teaching, assessments and course activity throughout this period, so we encourage you to check your timetable and Moodle regularly. Official vacation periods only apply to some courses, but exclude PhD, MA by Research and MSc by Research courses. Find more details via the key academic dates web page.

Working during your studies

If you are studying in the UK on a Student visa, it’s important to understand the rules around working during term time and vacation periods. Sponsored students can usually work up to 20 hours per week during term time and full-time during official university vacations. For non-sponsored students, different restrictions might apply. Make sure you understand your visa conditions, as breaking them could affect your immigration status. Head to the Student Hub for guidance about working in the UK as a sponsored student or non-sponsored student

Travelling on a Student visa

Remember your student visa only allows you to travel outside the UK during official University closure and non-teaching periods. Any absence during teaching weeks must be for a valid Exceptional Circumstance and must be authorised by the Visa team.  If you travel outside the UK during teaching weeks, you may be questioned by Immigration staff on return, and your visa status may be negatively affected. For more information, please visit the Student Hub.

Upcoming changes to the Graduate visa

The UK government has announced changes to the Graduate visa route. From 1 January 2027, sponsored international students who submit a Graduate visa application, after successfully completing an eligible course, will be able to stay in the UK for 18 months, reduced from the current two-year period. Find full details about eligibility, application timelines and visa conditions on the GOV.UK website

Know the signs of meningitis

It’s important that everyone is aware of the early symptoms of meningitis, including fever, headache, vomiting, diarrhoea and muscle pain. Symptoms can appear in any order, and someone with meningitis can become seriously unwell very quickly. Look out for your friends and housemates, trust your instincts, and call NHS 111 if you are concerned. Remember to register with a GP.  Search ‘health services’ on the Student Hub for guidance on how to do this.
