Our Welcome Guide covers how you can prepare for university, arriving at your new home, and what to do during your first week as a York St John student.

Enrol on your course

You must enrol on your course to become a student at York St John University.

You will get an email from our Registry team inviting you to enrol. This email will contain your Student ID number and enrolment key.

Enrolment Essential

Once we confirm your offer, it's time to enrol. You will receive an email from us when we are ready for you to enrol. Enrolment tells us that you are coming, creates your IT account with us and forms the contract between us.

Confirmation of conditional offer

If you have a conditional offer, confirmation is when we let you know your place with us has been confirmed. Find out how the process works and how to find our decision on UCAS.

Preparing your finances Essential

Make sure your finances are ready for starting university. From checking your Student Finance online account, to advice on student bank accounts and budgeting, we are here to support you every step of the way.

As soon as you have got your University login details, and you have logged into Moodle and e:Vision on a browser for the first time, you can access your personalised student app, MyYSJ.

We have 1 official Facebook group for new students, run by our Students' Union: York St John University Freshers.

Any other Facebook groups or Whatsapp chats/groups are not run by York St John staff.

Arrivals Weekend

Arrivals Weekend is an exciting period when you move into your accommodation. This is the day where you will pick up your accommodation keys and move in, meet your new housemates and start to make your new space feel like home.

Our friendly staff members will be on campus to help you find your way around. You can also visit our digital campus map to help you find your way around and understand the room naming system.

Course induction timetables Coming soon

As part of Welcome Week you are expected to attend the induction for your course. Your course induction will take place on campus and it is important that you attend all the sessions on your timetable.

Course induction timetables will be available in August.

Welcome Week activities

You are invited to celebrate starting at York St John by joining us on campus for a week of welcome activities. There will be events, spaces to socialise, and skills workshops. Our Students' Union (SU) will also be hosting a range of events and activities.

York St John Students' Union (YSJSU) is the hub of student life. We do all we can to make sure that you have the best time possible at University. As a member of the Students' Union, you can join a sport or society, vote in our annual elections, join our loyalty programme and much more.

Student Hub

We are here to support you throughout your University experience. The Student Hub provides a single point of contact for all your support needs during your time as a student. There is a physical Student Hub space on campus, as well as an online portal where you can access support information and make enquiries.

We've put together a programme of activities especially for mature learners, which runs alongside other Welcome Week activities. With a range of workshops and drop-ins, there are plenty of ways for you to get to know each other, your University and your campus.

International student induction

We run dedicated events for international students alongside other Welcome Week activities, including visa checkpoints and language support sessions. We've also created a checklist of important tasks such as setting up a bank account, registering with the NHS and exploring York.

Advice I'd give myself before starting university

Starting university can feel exciting and overwhelming at the same time. In this video, Ellee shares the advice she wishes she'd known before arriving, from making friends and managing your workload to finding a routine and settling in. 

If you're about to start university, this is a reminder that you don't need to have everything figured out straight away. Most students are learning as they go, and that's completely normal.
