Discussing Decolonisation
Event series and reading group hosted at York St John University
The Discussing Decolonisation event series is hosted by the Teaching and Learning Enhancement (TLE) team at York St John as part of the University's commitment to decolonisation and anti-racism.
These public-facing events provide opportunities for staff and students to explore the histories of colonialism and anti-colonial resistance, to rethink approaches to curricula, pedagogy and practice, and to discuss issues pertaining to decolonisation in higher education with colleagues from across the sector.
Reading and discussion group (DDRG)
Since 2024/25, the Discussing Decolonisation series has been complemented by an internal reading and discussion group dedicated to exploring the history, theory and politics of anti-colonialism and decolonisation.
From 2025/26 onwards, the Discussing Decolonisation Reading Group (DDRG) will also be aligned more closely with our events series, providing space for participants to read and discuss the published work of some of our guest speakers.
The draft schedule for DDRG 2025/26 can be found on our blog site, where we will continue to archive readings and discussion topics from previous years (for example, DDRG 2024/25). All readings are either open access or have been made available in print or eBook form via the York St John Library.
The DDRG is open to all York St John staff and students.
