Wellbeing self-referrals and drop-ins

We may all encounter a time when specialist mental health or emotional support can make a big difference. Find out how to access free mental health or wellbeing support through our self-referrals or drop-ins.

Two people sat at table talking

Our team of specialist practitioners includes counsellors and other mental health specialists.

Meeting with one of our practitioners offers you the chance to discuss your concerns and explore possible solutions together. The focus is on developing your strengths, skills and resources to cope.

There are currently 2 ways to access free mental health and counselling support from the Wellbeing team. You can self-refer for an appointment, or you can visit our drop-in sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays to speak confidentially with a practitioner.

Please note that we are not an emergency or crisis service. If you feel you are at immediate risk or you need urgent help, visit our Need help now page for information about the services available to help you.

Self-refer for an appointment

You can self-refer for support by completing our self-referral form. After you have self-referred, we may invite you to a 1 to 1 appointment with a member of our team.

The form might take you a few minutes to complete. Please complete as much of it as you can, as this will help us to offer you the type of support that is most appropriate for you.

Any information you provide will be treated sensitively. A member of our team will look at your form on the next working day after you submit it. We will get back to you within 2 working days with an offer of support and to discuss the next steps.

If you are using a public or shared computer to complete the form, we recommend you open it in a new 'private' or 'incognito' window in your browser, for your confidentiality.

Attending an appointment

If we offer you an appointment, we have collated some useful information to help you get as much out of your appointment as possible.

Wellbeing Drop-ins

Monday to Friday, 1.00pm to 3.30pm
Term time only

In addition to our self-referral appointments, you can access support from the Wellbeing team at our Drop-ins.

At our free drop-ins you can meet with a specialist Mental Health Practitioner for a short 1 to 1 session offering you support and information for your wellbeing and mental health. Our Practitioners can listen, provide a space for you to talk about your current mental wellbeing, signpost you to internal and external services, and support you with coping strategies.

To visit the drop-ins, go to the Holgate Information Services Desk and tell staff that you are here for the Wellbeing Drop-in. You will be asked to complete a short form when you arrive, and you will then have a session of around 20 to 30 minutes to explore your concerns. If the service is in demand, you may have to wait to be seen.
