Student Health Centre
York St John has a health centre on campus which is part of York Medical Group. Doctors' surgeries are held regularly and a practice nurse holds a daily clinic on a range of services.
Registering with the Student Health Centre
If you have not already done so, please register at Quad East for all of your medical needs and advice. The services we provide are tailored specifically to students.
You can register with the Student Health Centre before you arrive at University. You can register with us online or through the York Medical Group website, completing the online form under the Student Registration tab.

You can also register with us by scanning the QR code outside our surgery or on our information wall in Holgate.
Please don't wait until you are unwell to register. We need time to get your details from your existing GP and you will not be able to book an appointment if you are not registered.
If you choose to register you can still visit your normal doctor at your home address, but you may have to be registered as a temporary resident. Visit the Student Health Centre website to find out more.

For urgent advice and treatment when the Student Health Centre is closed, phone the surgery on the usual number and an answer phone message will advise you of an alternative number to dial.
A receptionist in the emergency call centre will answer your call. They will either:
- Arrange for you to speak to a doctor or nurse
- Invite you to attend the centre to be seen by the doctor
- Arrange a home visit if you are too ill to visit the centre
For routine calls it is often a good idea to try and avoid the busiest times (early morning and late evening). In an emergency, call the Student Health Centre and tell the receptionist the problem. It may be appropriate to take the patient straight to the nearest Accident and Emergency department at York Hospital.
