Founded in 2008, Metropolia is Finland’s largest university of applied sciences.

It educates students on culture, business, health care and social services, and technology.

Metropolia prides itself on its international atmosphere, and the mix of international students that come and study. There are around 1400 international students who represent 90 different nationalities.

Finland itself is a clean and efficient country, with stunning architecture, history and one of the oldest zoos in the world!

Choosing your modules

You need to gain the following credits from your modules: 

  • 27 to 30 ECTS (European) credits per semester
  • 54 to 60 ECTS per year

Academic calendar

The academic year is split into 2 semesters: 

  • Semester 1: Mid August to mid December
  • Semester 2: Early January to mid May

Metropolia does not have housing services to offer. It is your responsibility to find accommodation for the period of your studies.

Accommodation in York

If you study abroad for 1 semester, you are guaranteed University accommodation for the semester you are in York. This is based on York St John dates.

Visas

For further information, please visit the Studying in Finland Permits and citizenship website.

Please make sure your passport is valid for at least 6 months after you intend to return.

The housing company (HOAS) required a 500 Euro deposit. Proof of this must be shown to them in order to confirm the tenancy.
