Lakehead Thunder Bay campus was established in 1965 and is ranked number 1 in Canada for undergraduate research.
Lakehead is small enough to offer a personalised approach which supports your education and allow you to thrive to your highest potential of success. Lakehead University has 100 clubs, offering a variety of services, societies, jobs and volunteer opportunities throughout the year with the opportunity to meet likeminded people.
Lakehead University has a large recreational facility and a diverse 63 nations in its student body. There are opportunities for engagement and development to enjoy student life, get involved and take advantage of all the services, events and opportunities.
The campus is situated of the north shore of Lake Superior, the world’s largest freshwater lake. The surrounding area has breath taking nature and plenty of outdoor recreation.

Choosing your modules
You need to take 5 modules, equivalent to 2.5 FCE credits by Lakehead standards.

Academic calendar
The academic year is split into 2 semesters:
- Semester 1 (Fall): End of August to late December
- Semester 2 (Winter): Beginning of January to end of April

Accommodation
Accommodation abroad
ou will usually stay in town house or apartment-style accommodation, with access to a full kitchen.
Costs are usually between CAD$3731 and CAD$3936 per semester.

Accommodation in York
If you study abroad for 1 semester, you are guaranteed university accommodation for the semester you are in York.
Costs and visas
Insurance and additional costs
You must be enrolled in the University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP).
If you study abroad for a full academic year, the insurance fees for 2020-21 are CAD$720 per year or CAD$60 per month.
If you begin your studies in the winter semester, the insurance fees for 2020-21 are CAD$480.00 for 8 months.
If you qualify for a travel grant from Student Finance England, you may be able to claim this back.
There is also an ancillary fee of up to CAD$250 per semester. This covers the cost of laboratory supplies and other course related costs.
Visas
You will need an ETA (Electronic travel authorisation) which is a digital document connected to your passport that allows you to be in Canada for under 6 months.
You can apply for it online and it costs around CAD$7.00.
