Jane Peirson
Senior Lecturer in Nursing (Mental Health)
I qualified from the University of Sheffield as a registered nurse in mental health in 2003, I then went on to complete a further registration as a specialist community public health nurse - health visitor at the University of Hull in 2016. Since this, I have completed my MSc in community nursing - specialist community public health nursing (health visiting) in 2022 at the University of Hull.
I was working in practice in a variety of health settings and roles for 20 years before moving into teaching at the University of Hull in 2020 where I taught across the four nursing fields and other allied health professional programmes in both undergraduate and postgraduate studies.
I am delighted to have joined York St John University in 2023 as a senior lecturer in mental health nursing studies.

Teaching
I am currently teaching across the undergraduate nursing programme. Prior to this, I was a practice supervisor for many years before coming into academia. I have experience teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate studies in my previous academic posts in nursing, perinatal mental health, advanced practice and other allied health professional courses.
Research
I have two strands to my research interests:
- Infant and perinatal mental health, including the impacts of trauma.
- Improving student experience
