John Temperton

Course Lead of Graphics Design and Senior Lecturer

John Temperton is a full time senior lecturer in Graphic Design and graduated as outstanding in 2014 with a PGCE practised in higher education and received fellowship of the Higher Education Academy.

John studied information graphics at Middlesex University achieving a BA Honours before undertaking a Masters in illustration at the Royal College of Art. Since this time John has worked in the creative industries for more than twenty years for book publishers including Random House, Dorling Kindersley and has worked for clients such as, Glaxosmithkline, Bayer, Coats, Standard Chartered Bank, Liverpool Football Club, Gala Coral, Freemantle Media, Transport for London, Nokia and Vodafone and many other internationally renowned businesses. He has also worked extensively in entertainment and games media for developers Lego Media, Full Fat, Razorworks (Rebellion) and worked on developed titles for publishers Electronic Arts, 2K and Empire Interactive - Vivendi. He is also represented by a number of leading art and design agencies in London.

John encourages a multi-discipline approach to media technique in the classroom a reflection of his own industrial practice and experience and is always alert to changes in technology such as VR and AR, new working practices and is presently undertaking research interests in drawing and anthropology. The purpose of this is to examine the usefulness of drawing as a subject in both Art and Design and STEM classrooms. John was awarded best newcomer for the Association of Illustrators New Blood and nominated for best non-fiction illustrator Rhone Poulenc award and has had his work featured in New Scientist, BBC’s Blue Peter and Nickelodeon and significant commercial work published by Random House, Dorling Kindersley and Marshall Cavendish.

Teaching

Teaching full time at levels 4-6 undergraduate studies in Graphic Design.
