Teaching
I teach Criminology and Sociology modules within the Social Sciences across all year groups including Level 3 (foundation year), Levels 4-6 (undergraduate), and Level 7 and beyond (postgraduate). Current and previous modules have included subjects such as victimology, harms of the state, inequality, migration, ethnicity and criminal justice, criminological theory, and qualitative research methods.
Research
My primary research interests are in the areas of migration, immigration control, and immigration law. I wish to understand and uncover methods states and non-state actors engage in to manage populations, disincentivise entry, and punish migrant groups. My research is concerned with the physical and psychological consequences of exposure to these tactics by migrant communities and others classed as 'outsiders' within the United Kingdom and elsewhere. As such, I prefer qualitative methods as a means of highlighting individuals' experiences and reflections. My secondary research interest is in examining the extent to which media, specifically interactive media like video games, may reinforce broader structural inequalities in their representations of women, vulnerable people, ethnic minorities, and other marginalised groups.
