Dissertation Success
Dissertation printing and media equipment
Some departments require you to submit a printed version of your dissertation. Others will need you to access specialist data recording equipment, or read from different media, when you are carrying out your research.
Print Services
Print Services are accessed via the Library’s Information Services desk. They provide printing, photocopying, print credits, document/dissertation binding, laminating and scanning. You can also purchase post-it notes, memory sticks (including secure, password protected ones), highlighters and notepads from their vending machine in Fountains.
Document binding can be done to your programme's specifications. Email a PDF of your dissertation to the team, and they will do the rest for you. Alternatively, they can bind the document if you prefer to print it out yourself. Please look at the minimum service times to allow the team to carry out the work.
Media equipment
When it comes to collecting data, such as recording interviews, some extra equipment may be required. You can access a range of cameras, audio/visual recorders and tablets which are available for loan via our Media Booking service. Ask at the Information Services desk for more information.
Reading from microfilm, microfiche and other media
Library & Learning Services has a U-Scan universal film scanner set up within the Library. The universal film scanner can be used with microfilm, microfiche, aperture cards, microcards and photographic slides/negatives. The scanner will allow you to read, scan, print or save material on any of these formats. Material can be saved to USB sticks or your own My Documents area. If you need to use the scanner, please ask at the Information Services desk.
