Domestic Supervisor

Lisa Tuthill

I am a Domestic Supervisor at York St John University, managing six team leaders and overseeing more than 50 cleaners. There’s a healthy split of male and female colleagues within the department. The work that we do means we come into contact with people from all backgrounds every day: students, staff and visitors. Everyone across the University is friendly and helpful, in fact we often get feedback from new starters about the friendly environment here.

When I first started here I was working just three hours a day, and that was enough as it suited my family commitments. I worked evenings as it fitted in so well, really enjoyed the job, and upped my hours as the children got through school. As time has gone on, I have not only taken on greater responsibilities but also benefited from the brilliant courses York St John offers to all staff.

If you want to do something, just go for it. In the 15 years I have worked at York St John, I have gone from working part-time hours in the evenings, to leading a team of more of than 50 people.

If you want to further your career, you can access so much from inside the organisation. The University has even helped me to find a great work life balance along the way.
