Academic tutoring

Your guide to academic tutoring, how the process works, and how to make the most of your sessions.

A member of staff and a student work together at a computer.

When you arrive at York St John University, you will be allocated an academic tutor.

Your tutor will be a member of academic staff whose role is to support your academic development at the University. You will be invited to meet with your academic tutor several times each academic year. Your sessions are a chance to discuss your course, your development, and future plans.

Your first meeting will usually take place at the start of the first semester. Most of your sessions will be 1 to 1 with your academic tutor, but you will also have group sessions where you can benefit from the support and insight of your fellow students.

The infographic below gives more information about the academic tutor role and what you can do to get the most out of academic tutoring.
