Using RaY

RaY, Research at York St John, is the university's institutional repository service. It exists to store, showcase and share the university's research output.

Had a paper accepted for publication? Make sure it's eligible for REF 2021.

  • Upload your author-accepted manuscript to RaY.
  • Upload within three months of the date of acceptance.
  • Notify RaY as soon as your paper is published.

Under our Open Access policy, York St John staff and researchers should deposit all research outputs into RaY.

RaY supports many formats of research output including (but not limited to):

  • Peer-reviewed journal articles
  • Published conference papers, books and book chapters
  • Performances
  • Exhibition evidence (audio or visual)
  • Art
  • Coding
  • Music

REF 2021

The REF 2021 Open Access policy applies to journal articles and conference contributions (with an International Standard Serial Number (ISSN)) which are accepted for publication from 1 April 2016 and published on or before 31 December 2020.

The outputs covered by the policy must be deposited in a suitable open access repository within three months of acceptance if they are to be eligible for submission to the next REF.

In order to ensure your research outputs will be eligible under this policy, you should upload your author accepted manuscript to RaY immediately after acceptance.

All outputs uploaded to RaY must be accessible in accordance with the new digital accessibility regulations. For more advice on creating accessible documents, please contact digitaltraining@yorksj.ac.uk.
