Staff Profile
Dr Numrah Nisar
Lecturer
I completed my Ph.D. from Imperial College London, UK in Cell and Molecular Biology. This enhanced my interest in Glycosylation pathway of "xenobiotics" supported by specific enzymes (glutathione-s-transferases). Since my degree was accompanied by a contract to serve native country for 5 years, therefore, I continued my research interest there. This helped me to bag in projects, high impact papers and Ph.D. students' supervision. In 2021, I joined University of Bradford, UK as research assistant (enzyme expression, purification and catalysis) then later as Postdoc in Structural studies of gamma D crystallin (eye cataract protein). My post Ph.D. experience in cancer therapeutics also assisted me to do some side projects during PDRA position at the University of Bradford. I was then associated for a short while with a group working on skin cancer and treatment. Finally, I got appointed as lecturer at York St John University as module leader for Clinical Genetics. My expertise in the field brought some practical touch to the course and I enjoy research in this field.

Teaching
I love teaching Clinical Genetics at York St John. With the previous experience in teaching Molecular Biology, Biochemistry and Biotechnology, this course is thorough enhancement in my knowledge of gene functionality.
Research
My Research is extended from transcription to translation and then further structural studies. I enjoy working with expression of several enzymes (in vivo), particularly those which are required for cancer treatment. Further I have interest in metalloenzymes with specific prosthetic groups and make them to work in catalytic fashion to generate therapeutics. My expertise in X-ray Crystallography and Cryo-EM is very crucial to figure out the structural mechanism of these enzymes.
