Before you start
There are some things you need to do before you start with us. We've put together a checklist so you know you have it covered.

It's as easy as 1 - 2 - 3
Apply for student finance
If you have not applied for your student finance yet, it's important that you apply as soon as possible. It's not too late to apply, but doing so now will likely cause a delay in receiving your funds. If this is the case, please make sure you have some money to support you until your first instalment is paid.
Visit the gov.uk website and create an online account to apply.
Secure your accommodation
If you have not applied for university accommodation yet, it's not too late. We may still have rooms available in our accommodation sites.
Please contact our accommodation team, who will be able to talk you through your options: accommodation@yorksj.ac.uk
Complete your enrolment
Once we confirm your offer, it's time to enrol. This tells us that you are coming, creates your IT account with us and forms the contract between us.

Studying at university is different to studying at school and we're here to help you adjust to the change. Learn more about the ways studying at university is different to studying A levels or other qualifications.
Our YSJ For You course
We have created an online course to help you prepare for joining us.
This online course will help you:
- Develop the digital skills to make the most of university learning
- Learn how to use module reading lists to find out what you will be studying
- Gain study skills like time management and note-taking
- Understand how to evaluate and use information effectively for your course

Reading and tasks
Your academic tutors may ask you to do some tasks and reading before you start your course. If this is the case, we will send you an email with all the information you need. Once you've arrived, you will have access to our online reading list system. We don't recommend looking at this until you arrive, as lists are not finalised until early September.
The library has a digital first policy and will buy ebook versions of texts on your reading lists where they are available. If ebook versions are not available, the library will buy multiple copies of print versions of texts. Depending on your course, you may be expected to buy your own copy of books that you need to have access to throughout a given module. If you are asked to do this there may be second hand options available.
