2020 Welcome Guide
Before you start
There are some things you need to do before you start with us. We've put together a checklist so you know you have it covered.
It's as easy as 1 - 2 - 3
Apply for student finance
If you have not applied for your student finance yet, it's really important that you apply as soon as possible. It's not too late to apply, but doing so now will likely cause a delay in receiving your funds. If this is the case, please make sure you have some money to support you until your first instalment is paid.
Visit the Gov.uk website and create an online account to apply.
If you have joined us through Clearing, visit our funding page for Clearing. It will help you prepare your funding for Septemeber.
Secure your accommodation
If you have not applied for university accommodation yet, it's not too late. We still have rooms available in many of our accommodation sites.
Submit your application online using our Accommodation Hub as soon as you can. You will be able to select your preferences and let us know any adjustments you require.
The deadline for guaranteed accommodation has passed but we will still find all Clearing students a place in our accommodation. If you have not applied through Clearing and still need accommodation we will do our best to help you find a home.
If you are joining us through Clearing, visit our dedicated Accommodation page to find out what you need to do now.
Complete your enrolment
Once we confirm your offer, it's time to enrol. This tells us that you are coming in September, creates your IT account with us and forms the contract between us.
You can find out everything you need to know about enrolment and when you can expect to hear from us on our dedicated page.
Other ways you can prepare to start university
Take a look at our Get ready for uni course
This year we have created an online course to help you prepare for joining us in September.
This online course will help you:
- Develop the digital skills to make the most of learning online and in the classroom
- Learn how to use module reading lists to find out what you will be studying
- Gain study skills like time management and notetaking
- Understand how to evaluate and use information effectively for your course.
You can find out more about our online course and how to access it on our dedicated page.
Summer reading and tasks
You might need to do some tasks before you start in September. If you do, we will send you an email with all the information you need.
Once you have enrolled you will get access to reading lists for your course. Doing some reading for your course can give you confidence when you start. It can also get you excited about your new course and the things you will learn.
Don't worry about buying all the books, the library has all the recommended texts in stock. If you want your own copy, you can look for second hand options online.
