Supervision Skills
This course combines academic and experiential approaches to supervision, developing the supervisory skills of practitioner psychologists and the wider psychological workforce.

This course is accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS). This means that you can gain formal recognition of your supervisory skills by fulfilling the criteria for entry on the Register of Applied Psychology Practice Supervisors (RAPPS). It is delivered over 3 day, followed by an optional 1 day masterclass. The 1 day masterclass is also available as a standalone option if you have already completed supervision skills training.

What will I learn?
3 day course
The 3 day course covers:
- Supervision principles and goals
- Contracting and ethics
- Professional and regulatory frameworks
- The reflective practitioner
- Contemporary models of supervision for practitioner psychologists
- Methods, techniques, and responsibilities of psychology supervisors
- Managing the supervisory relationship
- Giving and receiving feedback
- Anti-oppressive practice
- Transcultural perspectives
- Nurturing the internal supervisor
- Integrative and relational approach to supervision
1 day masterclass
The optional 1 day masterclass covers:
- Responsibilities of a supervisor working with trainees and peers
- Theoretical perspectives to peer and group supervision
- Anti-oppressive practice
- Integrative and relational approach to supervision
- Experiential practice - group and peer supervision
How will I learn?
Each day of the course runs from 10.00am to 4.45pm. It is delivered through interactive workshop sessions, which may be online or on campus. Each day also includes experiential supervision skills practice.
During the course you will draw on your experiences in practice to reflect on and discuss the theory, skills and concepts explored.
Course leader biographies
The staff team teaching on this course are all experienced practitioner psychologists and supervisors on the RAPPS register or equivalent. They are part of the Doctorate of Counselling Psychology team at York St John University.
