Join us at our free York St John Community Festival for staff, students, alumni and the local York community.
York St John University are hosting a free community festival on Saturday 8 June 2024, from 10.00am to 4.00pm at the Haxby Road Sports Park, York.
Please note that while the event is free, you will need a ticket to enter.

When booking your free tickets through Eventbrite, you must book an admission ticket before booking onto any of the bookable activities. The programme above outlines which sessions are to be booked and which are open for you to join as you wish on the day.

Please use the Eventbrite link to book your general event admission ticket and any bookable activity slots you wish to attend.
You must book a general event admission ticket before you book onto any activities. Ticket sales close on Friday 7th June at 4.00pm.
Please respect the age, height and weight restrictions which have been put in place by the activity provider and are there for everybody’s safety. We reserve the right to remove individuals from a session if they do not meet the conditions outlined.
Car
Limited parking is available at Haxby Road Sports Park. Parking charges have been removed for the event so there is no charge for those attending the YSJ Community Festival.
The closest council car park is located at Union Terrace.
Nestle have very kindly offered to open one of their car parks for attendees of the YSJ Community Festival. Space is limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. When travelling from the city centre to Haxby Road, it is the last left turning before the Sports Park entrance on the right hand side. Using what3words, the precise location is Risky.Dust.Take.
Bus
- The Number 1 bus route stops outside Haxby Road Sports Park.
- The Number 5 bus route stops by Nestle.
- The Number 13 bus route stops by New Earswick Folk Hall
These bus stops are under a mile away.
Train
York train station is the closest station but this is around 2 miles away so further transportation is suggested.
Please sign in at the registration desk near Haxby Road Sports Park reception.
We will check you in, confirm any activities you have booked on to and whether there are any free spaces for further activities on the day.
You will also receive a copy of the Festival map and timetable.
We have a selection of food and drink outlets open throughout the day, which include:
- Hog Roast Yorkshire, open from 10.00am to 4.00pm
- Robert & Sons Pizza Company, open from 10.00am to 4.00pm
- Cafe2U, open from 10.00am to 4.00pm
- Graham’s Ices Ltd, open from 12.30pm to 3.00pm
- Internal café, open from 10.00am to 3.00pm
If you have booked onto one of our sporting activities, please wear suitable sporting clothing and footwear. There are changing facilities available should you wish to change during the day.
Lockers are available if you wish to store bags. All property in lockers is left at your own risk.
The YSJ Community Festival is open for all and children are more than welcome. Please make sure you book a relevant admission ticket for each individual attending.
Children must be supervised by a parent or guardian at all times. Please note, that although there are staff on site, they are not present in a childcare capacity.
Please make children aware of the Lost Child point located in the reception of Haxby Road Sports Park and provide an appropriate emergency contact number during the booking process.
Baby changing facilities are available.
This can be found at Haxby Road Sports Park reception. The emergency contact number provided during the booking process will be given to event staff on the day.
Please point out the Lost Child point to children on arrival to ensure they know where to go in case they lose contact with you.
All YSJActive staff are first aid trained, so please go to Haxby Road Sports Park reception or speak to a member of staff if you require any medical assistance.

Any relevant participant data will be shared with external providers running activities on the day of the event alone. External providers have all been given a copy of the privacy notice.

At York St John University, we are committed in making our events as welcoming and inclusive for as many people as possible.

Haxby Road Sports Park has a lift, accessible changing room and toilet facilities accessible using a Radar key. There is also step-free access throughout the site.
Blue badge parking is available on a first come first served basis, please see our ‘How to get there’ section for alternative travel information.
Only assistance dogs only are allowed on the Haxby Road site.
