Kyungpook National University (KNU) is a national comprehensive university, established in 1946.

It is located in the south eastern part of the Korean Peninsula in Daegu, a central city in the Gyeongsang region.

Kyungpook University has 17 colleges, 14 graduate schools and 134 research institutes. There are over 35,000 students currently studying there.

Accommodation

Accommodation abroad

Kyungpook National University Daegu campus dormitories have 8 dormitory buildings, a cafeteria, and 2 BTL dormitory buildings.

There are 2,065 rooms which accommodate 4,598 undergraduate and graduate students. Each building has a recreation hall, gym, shower room, computer laboratory and library.

The cultural centre has a cafeteria which can accommodate 700 people, and event space with lights, video, and audio equipment.

Additional costs

This information is about additional costs of studying at this host university. Please be aware that prices are subject to change, and the list may not be exhaustive.

We recommend looking at the host website, as well as entry requirements for the country, to get a full understanding of the costs involved.

You will be required to pay into the National Health Insurance of Korea (NHIK), which costs 71,520 KRW per month.

You have to purchase an Alien Registration Card within 90 days of arrival into South Korea, which costs 30,000 KRW.

A TB test is needed for checking in for KNU accommodation on arrival. The date must not be older than 2 months at the time of check in.

A deposit of between $600 and$1000 (depending on the meal plan) is due at check in. The remaining invoice amount will be given on arrival, and will need paying with a couple of days. The amount varies, depending on how many meals are chosen, however KNU recommend not choosing the full time meal plan, as you can use other on campus cafeterias and off campus restaurants. Meal plan options are:

  • 411,810 KRW per semester for 1 meal a day
  • 695,200 KRW per semester for 2 meals a day
  • 825,790 KRW for 3 meals a day

Visas

Please make sure you have an up to date passport that expires no earlier than 6 months after you intend to return.

You will be provided with guidance and documentation from the partner university but it will be your responsibility to obtain the correct visa. Neither the Study Abroad team here or at the partner university are qualified to offer consultations or detailed advice regarding visa applications.
