Staff Profile

Soyoon Park

Graduate Research Fellow

I am a PhD student in Language and Linguistics and my research investigates discursive constructions of gender in Korean pop music and their implications for gender identity negotiation among Korean language learners. I also work as a Graduate Research Fellow and teach in the Korean programmes.

Prior to my doctoral studies at York St John, I worked as a secondary school teacher in South Korea and received an MLitt in Comparative Literature from the University of Glasgow.

Teaching

I teach Accelerated Korean, the first year Korean module in the 2022-23 academic year.

Research

My research area lies in the field of sociolinguistics and applied linguistics and I am particularly interested in critical discourse analysis, narrative analysis, gender and identity studies.
