How to book your place
Register for each session in Handshake using the links below. In Handshake, login with your personal email address. You may need to reset your password but if you have any problems, please contact careers@yorksj.ac.uk.
We recommend that you attend all sessions to get the most out of this series. Some are repeated to give you the option of a different day and time.

Reflect on the experiences and skills you've gained so far, at university and beyond. Discover what employers are looking for right now and learn how to align your strengths with the job market to take confident, informed steps towards your next opportunity.

Social impact careers

Effective job searching
Wednesday 25 June 2025

Discover smart ways to search for jobs and find the right roles in the right places. This session introduces useful websites, resources, and strategies to help you find the right opportunities. We'll also build your confidence in networking, sending speculative emails, and researching employers, so you can take proactive steps towards a role that suits you.

In this session, we will outline the key components of CVs and cover letters, explore your thoughts of different recruitment processes and support you in constructing STAR responses to evidence those all-important transferrable skills.

In this session, we will reflect back on on what you've learned and the progress you've made, introducing you to SMART and DUMB targets, encouraging you to set practical, tangible goals for yourself going forward. We will also outline sources of additional support, to keep you moving forward with confidence.
