Our story

Widening health inequalities, an ageing population, and a health service under increasing pressure.

There has never been a more important time for innovative work to tackle the multiple issues facing health and social care in the UK today.

Launched in 2023, the Institute for Health and Care Improvement brings together academics from across the University to rise to this challenge of finding solutions.

The Institute acts as innovation hub for health and care services with our internationally excellent researchers working alongside patients, clinicians, and industry partners. From disease detection and prevention to physical activity, rehabilitation and health promotion, they are working to improve lives regionally, nationally and globally.

By collaborating in this way, we aim to influence decision-makers with evidence and research to inspire change as we navigate the health challenges of the modern world.

Supporting the development and delivery of innovative interdisciplinary postgraduate courses, CPD, doctoral programmes and apprenticeships to train the next generation of researchers who can work across academia and the public sector.
