Applying for a job

UK employers focus on skills, competencies or strengths. In job advertisements and person specifications they will outline what the ideal candidate must have in terms of skills and experience. The employer will expect you to address these points in your application.

This is known as tailoring your application to the job. We can help you to tailor your CV and cover letter, focusing on industrial placements and graduate jobs.

It's always good to participate in clubs and societies to boost your confidence, networking and volunteering experiences.

Applying for a Post Study Work (PSW) or graduate visa

Please refer to the latest visa information on the gov.uk website: Graduate visas.

Challenges for international students

  • Changes in immigration laws and some employers being reluctant to offer sponsorships
  • Not understanding the job searching culture in the UK and therefore not using the correct approach when applying for jobs
