Governance

York St John University is a company limited by guarantee without share capital use of 'Limited' exemption (Company Number 4498683).

The Privy Council conferred degree awarding powers on the University in 2005 under section 76 of the Further and Higher Education Act (1998).

The University is also an exempt charity which means it has charitable status and is required to comply with charity law, but is regulated by the sector regulator rather than the Charity Commission.

The Office for Students became the independent regulator of higher education in England on 01 April 2018 and was established by the Higher Education and Research Act 2017.
