Limited parking permits are available for students.
As the university is in the centre of York, parking on campus is extremely limited, and can only be used by blue badge holders, or those that have pre-booked visitor parking allocated to them.

Students are able to apply for a car parking permit that allows parking at three accommodation sites:
- The Grange (YO31 8SU - 115 spaces)
- Limes Court (YO31 0EA - 27 spaces)
- City Residence (YO31 8JY – 29 spaces)
Who can apply
All students living in YSJ accommodation can apply for a parking permit online but will only be considered for approval if they have exceptional circumstances where a car is essential (mobility/medical issues etc.). These circumstances must be outlined in the initial application and supporting evidence must be provided.
Blue badge holders
If you are a blue badge holder you will be guaranteed a permit free of charge if evidence of the disabled badge is supplied at the time of application.
Students with medical conditions
If you need parking due to existing medical conditions you will be required to submit evidence/details this. Health status will be reviewed on an annual basis when permits are re-issued, and if demand exceeds supply, applications will be prioritised according to need.
Due to the limited amount of parking spaces, students that commute from outside the York area for their studies, will be prioritised for parking permits.
Cost of parking permits
The cost of a permit depends on your circumstances:
- Students: £60 (full academic year starting August 1st)
Student Car Share: £30
Discounts: A 25% discount will be applied to permits for low emission vehicles (<120gCO2/km)
How to apply
Applications are submitted using the online Student Parking Permit application form.
You will be notified by email when your permit has been approved/denied.
Application opens on the 1st of August, just before the start of the academic year. You may apply all year round, but it is recommended to apply as early as possible, as we have a finite amount of permits available. All parking is on a first come first served basis and a permit does not guarantee a parking space.
Payments for student parking permits are made via purchasing the permit on the online store. If you cannot pay online, you can pay in person at the Finance office (Ripon Wing) on campus.
Changes to permits
Update your details (name, vehicle, model of car) by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
If a permit is lost, replacement permits will incur an administrative charge of £5. Pay for a replacement at the finance office (Ripon Wing) and then collect from the Porters Lodge, St Anthony’s House.
