Former York St John Theatre students wins radio station competition

Former York St John Theatre student and competition winner Laura Castle

Laura Castle beat hundreds of other hopefuls to reach the final five, and following a public vote was named as the station’s new Breakfast Show co-host on 25 March. She joins current hosts, Ben and Cat, on air from 6am-10am every weekday morning from 7 May.

Laura, a BA Theatre and MA Applied Theatre graduate originally from Bradford, entered the Search for a Star competition to fulfil an ambition to work in radio and music. Through a series of auditions, interviews and live radio appearances, Laura’s creative talent and personality shone through and she was crowned the winner.

“Winning this competition means the world to me. I have studied and worked hard for so long to gain a job in the creative industry. This role will open the door to many future opportunities and provide me with invaluable experience. I am so grateful to my family and friends for the support they have given me. I can’t wait to get started!” said Laura.

After graduating from York St John in 2018, Laura secured a part-time job at York’s Grand Opera House and plans to work there alongside her Breakfast Show presenting role at Minster FM.
