The Future of Sustainability at York St John

Published: 02 December 2019

Guest Speakers at Future Lab Event

With a range of businesses attending the event from across the country, students from the University were also invited, giving them an insight into a very important issue that society and businesses are facing today.

Shining a light on current issues of sustainability, guest speakers from various sectors shared their experiences and expertise, highlighting the potential challenges that may occur in the future if things don’t begin to change.

With the event acting as an open forum for guests to discuss new ideas and solutions, it was also an opportunity to build relationships with key stakeholders from across the country.

Guest speakers attending the event were from Forum of the Future, the Grand Hotel in York, Company Shop Group, Nestlé and Biomimicry UK.

Dr Brendan Paddison from the York Business School added: “Our second Future Lab event has been a great success and has given both staff and students a unique insight into the future of sustainability. By bringing in industry experts, we provide students with the opportunity to understand what is currently going on in practice and what role they might play.

We see our students as the future – the ones that are going to have to tackle some of these challenges and because of this, they have a particular insight and perspective that hasn’t yet been considered. Our Future Lab events are designed to find solutions, encourage collaboration and keep the conversation going.”
