York St John’s results in the 2024 Postgraduate Research Experience Survey improved again this year, with the University having its 5th consecutive increase in overall satisfaction amongst Postgraduate Researchers (PGRs).

The Postgraduate Research Experience Survey (PRES) is the leading survey of research postgraduates in the UK and beyond, with 12,123 responses received in 2024 from 61 institutions.

The overall satisfaction of York St John research postgraduates with their studies was 84%, 3% above the sector average.

York St John University also ranked 5th for both satisfaction with the quality of supervision and the research skills programme.

The proportion of PGRs at York St John who agreed that their confidence to be creative had developed was 92%, 12 percentage points above the Global benchmark.

The results come just a few months after York St John University officially opened its new Postgraduate Research School in October. This will be a major milestone for the University and its wider community, aimed at enhancing the experience of PGR students further and continuing to grow the PGR community at York St John.

Professor Andrew Hill, Head of Postgraduate Research at York St John, said: “It is fantastic to see the support we offer recognised in this way. We have outstanding research students at the University, and amazing supervisors and professional service staff who work together to provide the best possible experience.”

The full PRES results are published on the AdvanceHE website.
