York St John University has signed up to the Student Minds’ University Mental Health Charter Programme.
The new framework will provide a set of evidence-informed principles to help York St John strengthen mental health support for students and staff and to adopt a ‘whole-university’ approach to mental health and wellbeing. This will enable the University to build and expand upon existing good practice, in collaboration with students and staff.
The Charter, developed by the UK student mental health charity, Student Minds, encourages universities to proactively create environments that promote wellbeing and to share good practice. York St John University is now one of over 100 institutions that have signed up for the programme.
Rumnique Gill, Director of Student Success and Learning Services at York St John University, said:
“York St John University feels privileged to join the University Mental Health Charter (UMHC) Programme. Working with Student Minds, we relish the opportunity to highlight our established commitment towards the promotion of positive mental health within our university community.
“We look forward to showcasing best practice and learning from the sector, as well as exploring, through the themes of the Charter, the areas which may require further development to enhance our mental wellbeing provision, and ensure we continue to embed a whole-university approach to the mental health and wellbeing of our community”
Going forward, York St John University aims to join a select group of institutions who have achieved the UMHC award, presented by Student Minds.
This award acknowledges the work that an institution has done to embed the principles of the Charter and to demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement in its approach to mental health and wellbeing.
