Top 30 NSS ranking reflects positive student experience

Student feedback places York St John University amongst the highest performing English universities in the 2022 National Student Survey (NSS).
The University is now in 30th position out of 122 Higher Education providers in England, up from 36th in 2021.
Based on responses from over 324,000 students nationwide, the University achieved a score of 79.3% for overall satisfaction in this year’s NSS, significantly exceeding the 76% average for the higher education sector.
The NSS, carried out by the Office for Students on behalf of the UK funding and regulatory bodies, is one of the biggest student surveys in the world.
The 2022 survey questioned UK undergraduates on a range of aspects of their experience at university. Students at York St John responded with high scores for teaching, learning opportunities and learning resources.
Professor Karen Bryan, Vice Chancellor of York St John University praised staff for the results, saying:
“These headlines reflect the efforts that staff make to support the student journey and I know colleagues work tirelessly to ensure students have a good experience of studying at York St John University. Our results demonstrate the many areas of strength across all our academic Schools and provide us with opportunities to share good practice and build on this success.”
Across the UK, 69% of eligible students from 382 universities, colleges and private providers took part. The response rate at York St John University was 72.3%.
The results of the survey are used by universities, colleges, and student unions to drive improvements across multiple areas of students’ academic experience and information on the 2022 National Student Survey can be found on the Office for Students website.
