York St John University signs The Technician Commitment

The Technician Commitment is a university and research institution initiative, led by a steering group of sector bodies, with support from the Science Council and the Gatsby Charitable Foundation's Technicians Make It Happen campaign. The Technician Commitment aims to ensure visibility, recognition, career development and sustainability for technical staff across higher education and research.

As part of the process, York St John University’s Technical Support Team has been retitled ‘The Specialist Technical Team’. The new title is underpinned by three key drivers - the team are all specialists within the technical areas they support; every colleague supports a specialist area; and they manage specialist learning spaces and resources.

Jonny Woolsey, Head of Specialist Technical Services, said: “This title-change acknowledges the team’s function across the University, and marks the first step in our journey to promote a stronger identity for specialist technical colleagues working at York St John.”
