York St John continues its steady climb in the university rankings
Published: 13 September 2021
The Guardian University Guide rise has been boosted by student satisfaction throughout pandemic challenges.
York St John University has risen by seven places in the Guardian University Guide 2022. The university is now in 84th place, an impressive rise that builds on last year’s success which took York St John inside the top 100 for the first time.
Subject areas that performed particularly well at York St John this year include Sport Science which was ranked 15th nationally, and Health Professions which placed 21st.
For the 2022 rankings, The Guardian took the results from both 2020 and 2021, to create a ranking that reflected both how UK universities responded to the pandemic as well as student estimation of universities’ performance in a normal year.
York St John’s latest rise was also boosted by very strong scores in student satisfaction with their course and teaching.
Professor Karen Bryan OBE, Vice Chancellor of York St John University said: “This achievement is testament to the hard work and dedication of colleagues throughout the challenges of the past year. I am incredibly proud to see our success reflected in this ranking.”
The Guardian rankings are known to focus on the things that matter most to students, such as good teaching and job prospects. They use nine measures of performance, covering all stages of the student life cycle. These include: Student satisfaction with their course; satisfaction with teaching; satisfaction with feedback; student to staff ratio; spending per student; average entry tariff; grade improvement (academic improvement from entry qualifications to degree results); graduate employment and continuation (the proportion of students who continue into their second year).
