York St John University is proud to announce the results of the 2024 Postgraduate Taught Experience Survey (PTES). The annual survey, which ran in April and June this year, is co-ordinated by AdvanceHE and is the only UK higher education sector-wide survey to gain insight from taught postgraduate students about their learning and teaching experience.

This year over 1,100 students at York St shared their opinions on aspects of their courses such as teaching and learning, engagement and skills development.

Of the 107 institutions taking part, York St John ranked in the highest quarter for all but one of the sections of the survey. This included the all-important overall satisfaction which had a score of 88.8% across the University as a whole. This was well above the sector average, which was already the highest level reported at 84%.

For some courses this satisfaction score was even higher, with scores over 90% for Initial Teacher Education (ITE), Creative Writing and Business Management.

Looking beyond the overall scores, the University continues to demonstrate strong performance across critical areas of student experience including:

  • Teaching and Learning: Scoring 88%, this section highlights our commitment to academic excellence and innovative teaching methods.
  • Engagement: Achieving an 87% score, our students value the interactive and inclusive learning atmosphere we foster.
  • Learning Gain: With an 87.4% score, students recognise the significant progress they have made in their academic journey.
  • Personal Development: Scoring 87.7%, this section reflects the comprehensive support our students receive in their growth and career readiness.

The highest-ranking section for York St John was Community, where the University  ranked 7th out of 107 institutions.

Professor Richard Bourne, Pro Vice Chancellor: Education, York St John University said: “This year’s PTES results have set a new standard nationally and for our results to stand out above that is an exceptional achievement.

"The results highlight our commitment to providing an outstanding student experience, and it’s fantastic to see these efforts reflected so positively by our postgraduate community. The success is a testament to the dedication, expertise, and collaboration of our colleagues, whose work continues to elevate the quality of postgraduate education at York St John.”

The full PTES results are published on the AdvanceHE website.
