York St John University student Gabriela Bergamasco-Cardoso has secured herself an enviable internship with The Walt Disney Company.
Gabriela, who is in the second year of her Music Production BA Hons course, has just started a one-year placement at the company’s London headquarters, as part of the marketing production and operations team for factual content.
She was selected after taking part in group activities on an assessment day, as well as an interview with the department’s Production Managers.
“I’ve been eager to do an internship since my first day at university and I’ve always wanted to work for Disney,” said Gabriela.
“I’d been checking the Walt Disney Company website every day for a month when I found this internship and applied immediately. I was actually in the studio working with a client when I got a call from the Production Manager saying I’d got the job. It felt out of this world!”
As part of her placement, Gabriela will be responsible for tracking marketing campaigns for the National Geographic and WILD channel. She will be booking voice over artists, ensuring the correct legal and financial paperwork is in place, as well as checking the promotional material and trailers meet the technical requirements for broadcast.
A key role within the production team, it offers Gabriela the opportunity to meet various people to form a network that could be useful once starting her career post-university.
Marketing is one of the modules on the York St John University Music Production course, and it was a project Gabriela created in her first year of the course that she used to pitch to Disney before attending for interview.
Chris Johnson, Senior Lecturer in Music Production, said: “We were absolutely delighted to hear about Gabi’s success in securing the Disney internship, but it came as no real surprise.
“She is a committed and talented student who has excelled in her professional dealings with clients as part of her Music Production degree. Her business presentation to the record label executive in the first year showed deep insight and creativity in her approach to marketing media, and Disney have made an excellent choice in appointing her to the internship. Well done, Gabi!”
