York St John University has sustained its inclusion in the prestigious Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings.

The THE World University Rankings are the only global performance tables that judge research-intensive universities across all their core missions: teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.

Whilst York St John’s exact position has improved, the University remains in the 1001-1200 headline band, out of 2297 universities across 115 countries.

The rankings are based on 18 performance indicators, grouped into five areas: Teaching (the learning environment); Research environment (volume, income and reputation); Research quality (citation impact, research strength, research excellence and research influence); International outlook (staff, students and research); and Industry (income and patents).

York St John’s scores for research environment, research quality, industry and international outlook have all increased.

Subject area rankings are particularly positive for Education and Psychology within the top 500, Arts and Humanities (601-800) and Social Sciences (801-1000).

Professor Rob Mortimer, Pro Vice Chancellor: Research and International at York St John University, said:

“I am really proud to see our continued progress in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, with improvements across key measures. These results reflect the dedication, creativity and hard work of colleagues across the University, whose commitment to positive impact through research and partnership working continues to strengthen York St John’s reputation on a global stage.”

The University’s inclusion in the THE World University Rankings is complemented by its successful entry into the THE Sustainability Impact Ratings, the world’s most comprehensive framework for evaluating and celebrating universities’ deep social and economic impact through their contribution to all 17 of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
