Jaime Day, Senior Lecturer and Placement Engagement Lead for Nursing at York St John University, has been awarded the prestigious Queen’s Nurse title, by community nursing charity The Queen’s Institute of Community Nursing (QICN). She received the title in recognition of her commitment to delivering and leading outstanding care in the community, at a dedicated ceremony in November.
The Queen’s Nurse title is a nationally recognised mark of excellence, awarded to nurses who demonstrate exceptional commitment to high standards of practice, innovation, and community care. The title is open to any nurse with at least 5 years' experience working in the community, and is a formal recognition of being part of a network of nurses committed to giving outstanding care.
Jaime graduated from the University of Hull with a BSc (Hons) in Adult Nursing in 2009, before completing a Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (Health Visiting) qualification. Her career has spanned acute and community settings, with a strong interest in public health, person-centred care, and supporting individuals across their lifespan.
After several years working in clinical practice, Jaime moved into education in 2020 to support international nurses at York & Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. Prior to joining York St John University, she worked with students in both practice and academic environments at the University of Hull. Jaime is currently completing an MSc in Dementia, with research focused on how nursing education prepares students to work confidently with people living with dementia.
Commenting on the award, Jaime said:
“Being awarded the title of Queen’s Nurse is an incredible honour. I strive to work with compassion, remain person-centred, and always do the best for others, and this recognition affirms those values. It also inspires me to continue learning, leading, and supporting our students to recognise the vital importance of community care.”
Toni Bailey, Associate Head of School and Head of Nursing and Medical Science at York St John University added:
“I am delighted that Jaime has received the prestigious Queen’s Nurse title, an honour reserved for those who demonstrate exceptional nursing practice and a strong commitment to excellence. This award highlights Jaime’s outstanding impact on nursing education, from inspiring learners and supporting professional development to helping shape the next generation of nurses.”
