Published: 13 May 2014

York St John University’s atmospheric quadrangle will be the setting for a cinema screening with a difference this weekend.

Cycle cinema takes place on Saturday evening, where participants can enjoy a screening of ‘Belleville Rendezvous’ while volunteers take turns at pedalling static bikes which power the projector.

This event is free to all and guests are invited to bring a picnic or enjoy the food stalls while drinks can be bought from the nearby Students’ Union. YSJ SU Orchestra will entertain the crowds with a wide selection of music, from jazz to classical, before the film begins. There will also be a number of short films produced by Film and Television students to enjoy before the main screening.

‘Belleville Rendezvous(12A)’ tells the story of Champion who is put on a rigourous cycling training programme by his grandmother which leads to his dream of entering the Tour De France but many ups and downs occur along the way.

Tickets are free but should be booked in advance.

Event timetable:
• 6.00pm – 10.00pm Stalls, food and refreshments
• 6.00pm Live music and short films
• 8.30pm Main screening starts Belleville Rendezvous (Cert 12A)
