York St John University’s Design course is the ‘best in the UK’

Published: 04 June 2014

York St John University’s Design programme has been ranked as the top course of its kind in a national survey.

The Guardian’s University Guide 2015, which ranks institutions according to a range of factors, including student satisfaction, teaching quality and job prospects, was published yesterday (3 June).

As well as providing an overall league table of universities, the guide also offers an analysis of institutions by subject, and York St John came top of the table in the Design & Crafts category.

Warren Fearn, Head of Programme, BA Design, said: “Our department is thrilled to come top in the league table for Design and Crafts courses. It is especially meaningful as these results are shaped by the most recent NSS results, meaning they reflect student opinion and we are delighted students rate the programme so highly.

“Credit must go to every member of the Design team who work hard to ensure the student experience at York St John is the best it can be.”

The University has also risen in the overall league table of institutions. This year York St John University was rated as 89th. Last year it was in 94th place.

Professor David Fleming, Vice Chancellor, said: “I am very pleased that York St John University has once again risen in the Guardian University Guide.
“In particular, I am delighted that our teaching is recognised as among the best in the sector with our Design department ranked 1st in the UK and other subjects also receiving strong results.

“The guide is evidence that our students enjoy and value their time at York St John before progressing to a successful and rewarding career and I am confident the University and our students will continue to go from strength to strength.”
