Next St Wilfrid lecture to examine peace-building in the Korean Peninsula

Published: 06 June 2014

The St Wilfrid lecture series continues with a presentation by Professor Sebastian Kim from York St John University.

On the theme of ‘Minjung Art: A tool for peace-building in the Korean Peninsula’, the lecture will take place at Ripon Cathedral on Thursday 12 June at 7pm.

Professor Kim is Chair in Theology and Public Life at York St John University and his research interests include peace and reconciliation challenges and religion and post-modern society. He has been closely involved in debates linked to these topics in North and South Korea. Professor Kim is also author of a number of books and is the current editor of the International Journal of Public Theology.

The St Wilfrid series was initiated as a joint venture between Ripon Cathedral, the Methodist District of York and Hull, the Diocese of Ripon and Leeds and York St John University. The series invites high-profile theologians and public speakers to give lectures which respond to the growing need for theology and education to interact with issues facing society in the 21st century.

The 2014 St Wilfrid Lectures take the 100th anniversary of The First World War as an initial reference point to reflect on what happens beyond war and conflict. All of the 2014 speakers have engaged in aspects of peace-building, conflict resolution or reconciliation transformation. Future speakers in the series include Professor Paul Rogers, Dr Diana Francis and Professor Jolyon Mitchell.

Tickets for the lectures are available from the Cathedral Office, E: judithbustard@riponcathedral.org.uk or T: (01765) 603462.
