Spring cleaning students at York St John

Published: 07 March 2014

York St John Students' Union joined forces with the Smarter York team at City of York Council this week to spring clean the local area.

The team of volunteers started on campus and spruced up the area outside the Students’ Union before moving to the Groves area of the city where they picked litter weeded communal garden areas and planted flowers.

Adam McSkimming, President of York St John Students’ Union, said: “This was a fantastic way to highlight the direct impact and positive influence our students make on a daily basis here at York St John.

“Our students are tremendously proud of their city and everything in it. This is only a fraction of the work our students are constantly doing, from raising money for local and national charities to pulling up their sleeves and getting involved in projects like this.

“We’d like to thank everyone involved on Tuesday for helping to make it a great success.”

Smarter York aims to help maintain a clean, green and safe environment for York. The initiative encourages and works with residents to create attractive neighbourhoods with a sense of community.
