Leading architect hosts lecture

David Rudlin, manager of URBED (Urbanism, Environment & Design) and director of the URBED trust, came on campus to discuss his career which was followed by a question-and-answer session with the students.

He talked about his role as an urban planner, the lengthy timeframes involved and how he believed his job was one of the most challenging, but also most rewarding, in the sector.

David won the 2014 Wolfson Economics Prize, the second biggest economics prize in the world after the Nobel for his plans for the urban future of the UK. He is author of the book Sustainable Urban Neighbourhood and is chair of BEAM in Wakefield, joint chair of the Sheffield Design Panel and director of the Academy of Urbanism.

David was in the city ahead of launching the 2015 York Design Awards on Tuesday evening.
