Awesome Networks celebrates the positive impact that network groups of all types and from all sectors have and also thanks people who coordinate the networks within organisations. York St John University’s LGBT staff network is one of 100 networks to have been recognised by Inclusive Networks. Others include Lloyds Banking Group, PayPal and Dyfed-Powys Police.

York St John University’s LGBT Staff Network, now in its second year, has embedded itself firmly into the University community. The network has increased the visibility of LGBT people at the University and improved understanding of LGBT equality. The network’s blog promotes the work they do but also demonstrates their engagement with the local community and with regional and national networks.

Dr Fiona Thompson, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Chair of the LGBT Staff Network said: “To be recognised as an Awesome Network by Inclusive Networks is a reflection of the hard work, energy and dedication of a team of people who are truly awesome. I am proud to be part of the team and delighted that York St John University has been recognised in this way for the work it does to support and celebrate diversity.”

Thomas Anderson, Inclusive Networks Chief Executive, said: “The diversity of the nominations received is a celebration of the many authentic networks around the UK that have each made their mark and have a real positive impact on those people who engage with them.”

Inclusive Networks will announce the shortlist of their inaugural Inclusive Networks Awards on 3 September.
