Top academic joins York St John senior team

York St John University announces the appointment of Professor Alyson Tobin as the new Deputy Vice Chancellor.

Professor Tobin, will take up the post in September succeeding Professor David Maughan Brown who is retiring at the end of the year. Previously Acting Vice-Principal and Dean of the Faculty of Science at the University of St Andrews, Alyson has held posts at the University of Manchester, University of Sussex and University of York.

Professor Tobin has been awarded two personal research fellowships by The Royal Society and is a Fellow of the Society of Biology. She has supervised numerous PhD students, postdoctoral research fellows and raised over £1 million in Research Council grants. With a background in plant physiology and metabolism, Professor Tobin has presented invited research papers in the UK, Europe, USA, Japan and India.

Professor Tobin attended Newcastle University where she gained a First Class Honours BSc in Plant Biology and a PhD in Plant Biochemistry.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor David Fleming, said "I am delighted that Professor Tobin will be joining York St John University.
